Abstract

The circuit is designed to saving on energy consumption by and increase the working life of an electrical consumption unit such as a filament lamp or a resistance element. Typical applications are street lights in positions where other illumination is available, a reading lamp in a room where other occupants watch television, or a porch light where partial illumination is acceptable most of the time. A diode (7) is connected in series with the lamp or resistor, (9, 10) so that when connected to a.c. mains (1, 2), power is supplied during alternate cycles only. A two position switch (11, 12, 13, 14, 15) enables the diode to be by-passed so that full power is available for maximum illumination or heating.
