Abstract
The furnace has a micro-wave absorption zone enclosed in a metal casing extending the passage opening on the inlet and outlet side. The absorption zone (12) incorporates a large number of load components (23) of material absorbing the microwave, mounted between the casing (17) and the passage opening (15), and at intervals from each other. The components can be individual rods or small tubes or ferrite, arranged transverse to the passage. The passage opening can be surrounded by cladding (21) of dielectric material, the components being mounted clear of the cladding. A layer of thermally insulating material (24) can be mounted between components and casing, while the space between the former and the cladding is left free for the passage of cooling air.
