Abstract
Liquid epoxy resins contg. (-CH-CH2) and OH gps. having having an epoxy index of 1-3.5 and OH index of 2.5-1.5, are obtd. by reacting a liquid epoxy resin (contg. two terminal epoxy gps) with 0.25-1.5 mole, (per 2 epoxy rings of the starting resin) of an alcohol ROH, (where R is a 6-20C linear aliphatic gp), in the presence of a catalyst and under conditions which suppress secondary reactions; and then eliminating the catalyst. The prods. are completely compatible with bitumen when the epoxy resin inex is =1.5 and can be reacted with polyamines to form flexible polymers or copolymerised with silicones, polyacrylics, polyesters, etc into prods. that can be crosslinked via the epoxy gps. crosslinked prods. are also obtd. by reacting the resins with polyisocyanates.
