Abstract

A hydrocarbon charge contg. mono-olefins is reacted with Br2 or pref. Cl2 and excess hydrocarbon in the liquid state at under 15 kg/cm2 pressure and a temp. about ambient. The halohydrin is extracted into an organic phase, distilled, the residue reacted with alkali and the epoxide distilled. Higher mol. wt. olefins may also be used. The epoxides are intermediates for polyesters, ether oxides etc.
