Abstract

A process and device for rolling equi-distant, transverse, trapezoidal grooves in sheet used e.g. for shaped panels for radiators. The flat sheet is first rolled to produce zones contg. equidistant undulations projecting on one side of the sheet, after which the undeformed regions are rolled to make the finished grooves with projections on the other side of the sheet, a different pass-height being used. The device pref. consists of two pairs of synchronised rolls fitted with matching projections and grooves, no tension being exerted on the first pair of rolls by the second pair. The result is a small area of contact with the radiator thus leaving a large area for heat-transfer. The first pair of rolls produces three undulations at regulat intervals along the sheet using a lower roll with three projections arranged in sets round the periphery at intervals leaving equal lengths of flat sheet between each set of three undulations as shown at the left of the fig. The sheet then passes through the second pair of rolls, the upper roll being fitted with projections contg. a semi-circular recess. The lower roll has equally spaced slots and projections sepd. by flat zones, thus producing the final shape which runs transversely right across the sheet. The short, flat regions produced by the root and face are used to fix the panels to the radiator, thus leaving a large free area.
