Abstract
Identical flexible-walled chambers of variable capacity communicate permanently with each other via a passage. They can move along a path where the hydrostatic thrust is best, i.e. a nearly vertical one. The chambers can be attached to a continuous sheet held taut between two drums with parallel axes, one above the other, and driven by it. There can be guides on the chamber free ends so that those at one side of a vertical plane are reduced in volume and those at the other at maximum volume. The volume of air in the chambers and the common passage can be constant at all times, and the chambers can be fully immersed in a fluid of density at least equal to that of water.
