Abstract

The horizontal or vertical member is built up from three 2" x 1.1/4" joists (1, 2, 3), and is designed to obviate machining of prior one-piece members, to simply furnish a member with two external faces (9, 8) whilst forming the door or leaf recess (5, 7) with opposed frame to wall (13) sealing cavity (12). The two flanges (1, 3) of the 'Z' are formed by joists with their major axis parallel to the opening plane, with the intermediate or web joist (2) lying with its major axis normal to this plane, and the three components are glued together. An anti-turbulence groove (11) is incorporated in the leaf stop angle; similar sectioned joists (14, 15) can be used to form leaves or sashes; and the member can be used with fixed or hinged window sashes.
