Abstract

Compartmented tray is mfrd. by applying to one surface of a flat sheet of plastics, e.g. flexible or semi-rigid PVC, a layer of adhesive which does not polymerise until after subsequent shaping. A sheet of alveolar material, e.g. tissue or polyurethane foam, is placed on top of this layer, and the whole structure is heat-shaped to form deep recesses for the compartments. The flat sheet of plastics may optionally be self-adhesive. Due to the retarded polymerisation of the adhesive, the alveolar sheet slides relatively to that flat plastics sheet during heat-shaping, preventing reduction in thickness of the alveolar sheet.
