Abstract

The roof of a tunnel furnace is made from side by side U-channels of fibrous refractory material located across the brickwork, forming the sides of the furnace tunnel. These channels have holes (1, 2) through the vertical flanges (3, 4) near one end so that they may be supported near the centre of the furnace tunnel from the overhead framework, by wires (7). These channels ae also made with a suitable side structure, intended for strips of insulating material to be stacked inside them to give a very high degree of insulation.
