Abstract

Epoxypropane is prepd. by the gas phase oxidn. of ethylenic cpds. CnH2n (n is 2-8) opt. in presence of an inert gas using oxygen and a novel catalyst contg. silver and >=1 Ag halide, at 130-350, pref. 150-350 degrees C, under 0.5-45 kg/cm2 pressure. The ethylenic cpd. is pref. propylene. The catalyst may be a combination of Ag with any Ag halide(s), and is pref. on a support, e.g. alpha-alumina, silicon carbide, alumina silicate of specific surface area 2.3m2/g. The catalyst pref. contains 5000 ppm. alkali(ne earth) metal.
