Abstract

Extruders incorporating two or more screws with meshed flights having flight variations which are mutually opposed to cause balanced variations in the transport capacities of adjacent sections of the screws, causing material to cross controlled depth flight gaps from one screw to another, and opt. back again, during extrusion. For extrusion of thermoplastics, esp. powdered feedstocks, or elastomers, thermosetting resins or liq. matls. Combines the positive action of a multiple screw extruder with trans-flight material transfer which (a) causes a degree of mixing, (b) ensures that all the matl is subjected at least once to a narrow shear zone whereby its flor characteristics and peak temp. can be closely controled.
