Abstract

Electronic starter (12) for discharge tubes having preheated electrodes is fed directly from an a.c. source through a series ballast impedance. The starter (12) temporarily electrically connects the electrodes of the discharge tube and has two terminals connecting with the electrodes and a bridge rectifier unit (13, 14, 15, 16) whose output terminals are connected to two conductors fed with continuous current pulses from an electronic circuit employing a thyristor (21) and a network having a series connected resistance (24) and a capacitor (25) whose common point is connected to the trigger electrode by a diac (23). The common point of the series RC (24, 25) network is connected via a second resistance (26, 27) to the ends of one of the preheated electrodes of the discharge tube.
