Abstract

In a process for recovering high m.pt. organic matls. whose crystals have a high thermal conductivity, from a stream of gas in which the materials are present as vapour mixed with gaseous impurities, the gas stream is cooled to a temp. which is 5-10 degrees C above the satn. temp. but significantly below the m.pt. of the material to be recovered by dilution with air or inert gas. The precooled gas is passed over a cooling surface onto which the organic matl. sublimes to the solid form whilst the impurities remain in the gaseous phase. The cooling surface may be extended surface cooling coils. Process is esp. for recovery of polycarbon acid anhydrides. The materials have recovered directly without water washing and the subsequent used for dehydration the process is continuous.
