Abstract
The structure consists of a number of tubular components of wound wire (21) mounted side by side so as to form multiple longitudinal members. The sections of the components are selected so as to define approximately the profile desired, and they are enclosed by a working cladding surface (31) so fixed to their outside surfaces that the complete assembly resists longitudinal bending loads, the loads being distributed over the whole length. The tubular components can be of relatively large section at the centre, decreasing towards both edges to give the complete assembly a profile over which air flows easily. The spaces between the outer surfaces of the tubular components and the cladding can be filled with light-weight incompressible material.
