Abstract

A cage (1) is made from panels (3, 4) of wire mesh, having large holes, in the form of a rectangular shape. Each corner is reinforced by an angle iron upright (2) and cross braces may be used. All four faces are lined with plastic sheeting (5) and the interior fille with growing compound (6) of the required composition. A layer of sand (7) is laid on top and used to fill several deep holes (8) extending downwards into the compound. This ensures rapid and even distribution of water. Plants are grown through the panels and holes (9, 10) in the plastic sheet. Containers are orientated north-south to receive maximum sun.
