Abstract

This poly-phase transformer circuit-breaker is tripped by two threshold circuits (8a, 10a) in each phase. These are activated by the outputs of a heating resistance and thermocouple unit. Each heating resistance (4a), (4b), (4c) is fed from a phase current transformer and is in contact with the thermo-couple (5a), (5b), (5c). This pair is mounted in a body with the same thermal characteristics as the transformer and is plunger in its coolant. Large overloads are detected by the thermo-couple and small overloads by pulses across the heating resistance. This unit is accessible for maintenance and simplifies the circuit-breaker mechanism.
