Abstract

A knitting machine (e.g. circular/flat bar) has a needle selector device comprising a flexible rod associated with pref. a needle jack of each needle, the rods being anchored at one end and being permanently attracted into a deformed position by a permanent magnet having a central pole piece. On the opposite sides of the rods is a group of electromagnets which are selectively excited to attract selected rods away from the permanent magnet to a position in which they can allow lifting of the associated needle. The arrangement reduces wear on the needle jacks and electromagnets and reduces fluctuations in the magnetic flux of the electromagnets.
