Abstract
A PVC stabiliser is prepd. by brutally cooling by atomisation a molten compsn., pref. at 150-190 degrees C, of lead salts contg. at least 10% by wt. of (I) a neutral or mono-basic lead salt of a 5-24C straight or branched chain mono-carboxylic acid; compsn. may be wholly of the neutral or monobasic salt, pref. prepd. by reacting lithage with appropriate acid(s) in organic solvent capable of forming an azeotrope with water, eliminating the water of reaction then the solvent; or compsn. contains another lead salt capable of forming a fusible mixture with (I) or an infusible or high m.pt. lead salt capable of forming a paste with molten (I). Atomisation yields dry hard particles which can be handled without dust formation and are easily incorporated in PVC using rapid mixes.
