Abstract
Polynucleotide phosphorylase (PNPase) with a mol. wt. of 200,000 + 10% composed of two sub-units with a mol. wt. of 95,000 + 5% free from nucleases, kinases, phosphatases and proteases is extracted from E.coli. The PNPase fixed on a sepharose support is used as a catalyst in the synthesis of homo- and co-polynucleotides. PNPase catalyses e.g. the polymsn. of inosine diphosphate, cytidine diphosphate, adenosine diphosphate, guanosine diphosphate, to form cpds. which are useful in the treatment of certain forms of leukemia and in the immunatory defence of the organisms.
