Abstract

At least one of the media is electrically conducting and non-magnetic. The pickup has output and measurement windings on an open magnetic system whose end faces, when the pickup is inserted, face the boundary between the two media. The magnetic circuit consists of two parallel bars, whose end faces lie in a plane when the pickup is inserted. Each bar carries its own measurement winding, connected in series in opposition to the other, and both bars carry a common output winding. The apparatus has high sensitivity even with small measurements. As well as measuring the apparatus can keep the media at the correct stipulated height.
