Abstract

The fire extinguisher is fitted at its opening with a ring on which is mounted the valve body (4) with its outlet orifice (19) and a valve cap (12). The valve (8) slides in the body and at its upper end the valve stem is fitted with an inner sleeve (5) and a cylinder (13) held against the valve cap by spring pressure. In the closed position a ring of steel balls, lodged in holes in the sleeve, are held in a circumferential groove in the valve stem by the outer cylinder. When pressure is applied to the top of the cylinder, it moves down and the balls move outward, into a radial opening in the cylinder, and the valve is released, venting the extinguisher.
