Abstract

The road surface at a certain distance from the hazard e.g. a sharp bend, incorporates a sensor pad, responsive to the passage of a vehicle over it, to actuate an audio warning device, some distance further along the road, to alert the driver of the vehicle. Pref. the warning device is a double tone siren, which is positioned at a height of approximately 1 metre from the level of the road surface and which may be attached to a telegraph post. The warning device is associated with a relay switching unit, which may be used to control a series of warning devices.
