Abstract
Industrial effluents from metal rinsing baths, containing hydrochloric acid, following the pickling operation before hot-dip galvanizing are first neutralized by adding lime. Sulphuric acid is added to the resulting CaCl2 solution to produce CaSO4 and a strongly diluted HCl solution. The latter is recycled into the process circuit. This eliminates the formation of effluents with a high content of salts (CaCl, NaCl) which are difficult to treat and cause serious pollution of the waste water channels. The by-products can be sold for the manufacture of paper and the process needs little make-up water.
