Abstract

Extruder for the continuous mfr. of granules of food-stuffs, pharmaceutical prods. etc. consists of a cylindrical body contg. an Archimedean extrusion screw; the end of the latter is cone-shaped and consists of a two-start spiral. The flange, bolted to the body, carries a granulating cone with its perforations. The end of the conical surface is provided with a bearing which supports the end of the screw. The disc carries a series of cutters; their cutting edges are parallel to the conical surface and they reduce the length of the extruded granules. The cutters are driven by the Archimedean screw and rotate at the same speed. The extruder not only has the advantage of continuous working but it has a very extensive granulating surface; this reduces the extruding force required. The cone can also be changed so that the shape and size of the prod. can be varied.
