Abstract

This addition describes a change in the form of the seal between a sluice gate and the guiding walls, allowing the use of a cheaply made stock item to replace the previous costly design. A flexible elastomeric seal (6) of rectangular cross-section is forced into a trapezoidal section slot (5) running along the face of the gate (4) to be sealed. The width of the seal is the same as the width of the slot at the bottom and the depth of the seal is the same as the depth of the slot. As a result, when the seal is inserted, the compression of its width at the surface causes it to bulge out (7) and form the bearing face of the seal.
