Abstract

The spherical castor has a bore in one side to form a blind hole into which the bearing sleeve is pressed. The sleeve protrudes out of the hole slightly and contains set of sealed bearings which locate the central shaft. The shaft is inclined at an angle to the horizontal so that the castor operates, with the weight of the vehicle through the middle of the sphere. The end of the shaft is shaped to fit into a support collar which overlaps the bearing sleeve to form a dust protection. The collar is joined to a bearing ring for a vertical axis bearing under the vehicle. The bearing surface may be non-spherical as long as it is rotationally symmetrical.
