Abstract

In the method in which a bed of needles is passed through a base fabric, the loops formed by the needling being retained during retraction of the needles and subsequently cut, (a) the base fabric is displaced intermittently and between each such displacement the needle bed is displaced, while continuing this needling perpendicularly to the direction of displacement of the base fabric; (b) a needle bed is used of width, perpendicular to its direction of displacement relative to the base fabric, substantially smaller than the width of the base fabric measured perpendicularly to its direction of intermittent displacement.
