Abstract

The device consists of a rotary or oscillating perforated barrel mounted on a frame and immersed in the plating bath. At least the bearing carrying the electric current from the cathodes in the barrel is fitted with a rotary mechanical seal under compression which forms an integral part of a casing made of a stiff plastic possessing elastic properties. The casing is pref. made of glass-reinforced PTFE, the seal rotating in a housing pref. made of polyethylene; one end of the casing is fixed to the barrel, the other end being held in position by a spring so the seal is free to expand and contract without its efficiency being impaired. A really effective seal is formed round the electrical connection and the bearing, thus precluding attack by, or deposition from, the plating soln.
