Abstract

The adducts are prepd. by reacting 2-25% (as urea) non-protein nitrogen cpds., pref. urea or biuret, with 30-50% carbohydrate contg. free aldehyde or keto gps., e.g. in form of sugar molasses, at 60-135 degrees in the presence of 2-10% mineral acid, pref. a mixt. of HCl, H2SO4 and H3PO4. Reaction proceeds via rearrangement of a Schiffs base, to give a 1-amino- sugar deriv. The prod. lacks all the disadvantages of previous known non-protein nitrogen compsns.
