Abstract
The toner comprises (A) colourant and (B) an amorphous low m.pt. aromatic polyester which contains >=30 mole % units (a) and/or (b) and also contains is not >10 mole % units (c) and/or is not >10 mole % units (d) (where (a) is an asymmetrical arylene gp. of formula (I): (in which Ar is 6-18C divalent arylene; R is H, halo, 1-4C alkyl, sulpho, alkali metal sulphonate, NO2, CN, lower alkoxy, amino, thio lower alkoxy (sic) or N(R')r; R' is H or lower alkyl; p = 2 or 3; each m = 0 or 1; n is 0-3), (b) is an asymmetric alkylene gp. of formula (II): (in which R" is 1-4C alkyl; R"' is H or as R"; q is 1-10; r is 0 or 1), (c) is the residue of a polyol with 3-15C and 3-8 OH gps. and (d) is the residue of a 3-60C polycarboxylic acid with 3-8CO2H gps. or its ester). The toners are suitable for use in high speed copying machines since they have good stability during fixing, require little energy for thermal fixing, have moisture-stable electrical properties, are resistant to fixing together, can be easily removed from background areas, do not scratch surfaces, have good covering power and have good mechanical resistance during fixing.
