Abstract

The circuit is used with a phase controlled thyristor to provide very low DC motor speeds, such a requirement existing in film reading equipment where hight and low winding rates are necessary. The technique aims to overcome the lack of smoothing in the running of motors at low speeds. The AC input is fed to full wave bridge rectifier, its output supplying the motor via a series thyristor. The duration of conduction is controlled by a phase control circuit and oscillator, smoothing of this supply is achieved by an inverted diode in parallel with the motor winding and a rectifier and filter circuit in parallel with the motor.
