Abstract

The continuous control of a rotary-hearth furnace for the desulphurisation of coke is effected by monitoring the S content, the electrical resistance, the grain size distribution, the density the paramagnetic resonance, the pH and/or the porosity of the coke undergoing desulphurisation, and adapting the operating conditions of the furnace as a function of the results obtd. The invention relates specifically to the desulphurisation of petroleum coke for electrode prodn. The above monitoring techniques supplement or are improvements on those described in the Parent Patent, thus improving prod. quality.
