Abstract

The steering column (1) slides in a housing (2). The splined part (3) of the column acts with a splined bush (4) which is solid with the housing (2) and the steering box shaft (5). The splined part (3) has a piece (6) housed in an annular groove, maintained in place by circlips (7) (8). The housing has rivets (9) in helical spacing to foul the piece in the groove if it moves. Rivets are sheared progressively if the driver hits the steering wheel in a collision. The replacement of the broken rivets is a relatively simple operation.
