Abstract

Valve has a moulded plastic body with flow inlet and outlet ports, one of which is coaxial with a threaded seat for accepting a tubular cdaptor for supporting a threaded plastic valve spindle, complete with the valve plug, and a shaft for an external handle to advance the plug and cover the valve inlet/outlet. The combination of the component shapes and the damping characteristics of the recommended materials significantly reduces flow noise compared with conventional gate or diaphragm valves with metal bodies, esp. when flow is partially throttled. Unit is also relatively lightweight and corrosion-resistant. Pref. valve body is mfd. from polyphenylene oxide and the plug from acetal resin.
