Abstract

The oil in oil slocks floating on water is recovered by a boat with a collector tank and with protruding booms which define an enclosed oil-covered area ahead of the boat. Chamfered baffle plates between the boom side walls exert a flow resistance and reduce the water velocity relative to the boat ahead of the bow wave. This allows the boat to travel at high speed without entraining the oil with the water flow under the boat. High recovery rates are achieved for speeds far above the conventional 1 ft/sec.
