Abstract

The objects, typically packages formed by pieces of cardboard with a plastic covering film, arrive on a conveyor (1) and fall into a hopper (3) formed by sides (4) and end pieces (9, 11). The spacing of the sides and ends is adjustable. The bottom of the hopper (18) with an attached pushing plate (19) can be moved backwards and forwards by an actuator (20). In the rearwards position the bottom of the hopper is open, permitting objects to fall on to a lower plate (17) from where they are pushed on the forward stroke. The number of objects falling through is controlled by points (32), adjustable for position, and movable in a lateral direction, which are operated by rollers (29) running against the sides of the hopper bottom (18).
