Abstract

N oxides are removed from gas mixts. by contact with (a) an acid aq. chlorate soln. (I) and then (b) water, an aq. soln. or dispersion (II) of a basic cpd. (III) or an alkaline aq. soln. or dispersion of a reducing cpd. (IV). Pref. (I) contains NaClO2, KClO3, NH4ClO3, Ca(ClO3)2 or Ba(ClO3)2 in a concn. of 0.01-3.0 wt.% is acidified with 1-80 wt.% inorg. acid and opt. contains 2-40 g/l alkali metal chloride. (III) can be NaOH, KOH, Na2CO3, CaCO3, NH3 or Ca(OH)2 and (IV) an alkali metal sulphide or sulphite or H2O2, (II) contg. 1-40 g/l (IIIe and/or 0.1-10 g/l (IV). Method is used for the treatment of gas contg. N mono-and other oxides and opt. SO2. The process gives improved efficiency at lower cost and gives no waste liquor which leads to sec. pollution.
