Thiaazabicyclooctane derivs of formula (I) are new: (where R1-R3 are H or 1-4C alkyl, or one can be phenyl opt. substd. by halogen, 1-4C alkyl or 1-4C alkoxy gps.; R4 is H, 1-4C alkyl, phenyl (opt. substd. by halogen, 1-4C alkyl or 1-4C alkoxy), or COOCR5R6R7, where R5-R7 are 1-3C aklyl; R3 can also link with R1 or R2 to form a 5- to 7-membered carbocyclic ring). Cpds. (I) have bacteriostatic activity and are intermediate for antibiotics.
