New cpds. of formula (I): (where R is 1-5C alkyl or aryl; R1-R4 are H, alkyl or aryl, or R1 + R2 form an opt. substd. benzene ring and R3 and R4 are H, lower alkyl or aryl; X is halogen) are pref. prepd. by reacting the corresp. N,N'-unsubstd. hexahydrodiazepine with XRCOY (where Y is halogen) in the presence of an inert solvent and an acid binder.
