Abstract

Food and animal feed supplements (pref. in the form of capsules) contain as essential ingredients (a) an edible antioxidant selected from vitamin C, vitamin E, other edible natural antioxidants, edible synthetic antioxidants, and their mixts. and (b) an edible sulphur-contg. peptide, amino acid and/or protein. The amt. of ingredient (a) should be such as to give a daily dosage of 100-5000 mg vitamin C, 30-2000 mg vitamin E, 10-1000 mg other natural antioxidants or 0.01-500 mg synthetic antioxidants. The amt. of ingredient (b) should be such as to give a daily consumption of 100-2000mg. All dosages are for a body weight of 54kg (average for adult humans). The supplements inhibit or retard the occurrence of all types of cancer, presumably due to an inhibition of free-radical processes. Medicaments for inhibiting skin cancers due to radiations or prolonged exposure to heat contain (a) an edible synthetic and/or natural antioxidant and (b) an edible S-contg. amino acid, protein or peptide in a form suitable for application to the skin.
