Abstract

The partial pressure of dissolved O2 in water or other solvents is measured by a cell containg. light sensitive compds. whose sensitivity varies with O2 conc. Soln. flows through tube 1 over cell 6 to cover by membrane 8 which is permeable to O2 but not the solvent. The space behind the membrane is filled with a soln. of a fluorescent cpd. e.g. anthracene. It also contains a light source and a detector connected to a measuring instrument. O2 from the soln. passes through the membrane and partially reduces the fluorescence induced by the light source. The difference gives a measure of the O2 conc.
