Abstract

The heating unit is designed to prevent freezing of railway points. Copper pipes are coiled around a core which is bolted to the flange of one of the rails. The coils (11 & 12) which are connected in series are fed with oil from a heater (25) which derives its heat from an electric element. Oil is fed to the heater by a hydraulic pump (22) which is driven by an electric motor (21). Supplies of oil are drawn from a reservoir (20). Oil is also fed to a hydraulic ram which actuates the points. This ram is connected to the points by a rod.
