Abstract
The central metal stringer (5) has vertical metal tubes welded to it (3). These tubes have flat horizontal tops on which is placed a folded metal plate (1), on which bears the stair tread. When the tread is very wide the folded supporting plate may be stabilized by a bolt (6) in the front face. The top of the folded plate has a large hole under which is welded a metal section through which passes a large bolt (2). To the inside of the vertical tube there is welded a piece of metal (4) which is threaded to receive the bolt. The large bolt head is recessed to give a smooth top surface to the folded metal plate.
