Abstract

Aq. alkline baths for treating cellulose fibre textiles contain anionic or nonionic wetting agents and opt. complex-formers and/or reducing agents, and a maleic acid copolymer. Native or regenerated cellulose fibres, or mixed fabrics contg. cellulose and synthetic e.g. polyester or polyamide, fibres can be treated. A better bleaching effect is obtd. giving a whiter fabric. Copolymers of maleic acid with (meth) acrylic acid (esters) vinyl ethers, styrene, vinyl toluene or ethylene, in ratio by wt. of 8:1-1:8 (2:1-1:2) are pref. The copolymer has mol. wt. 700-5000 (800-3000). and is used in an amt.
