Abstract

In an electro-photographic recording material comprising in known manner a semiconductor layer between a photo-conducting layer and a substrate, the mobility of the electrons and the holes in the inter. layer differ so strongly that the layer is virtually an insulator for one type of charge carrier and an electrical conductor for the other type. More especially, in conditions of operation providing a positive surface charge on the surface of the photo-conducting layer, the mobility of the electrons in the inter layer is small compared to that of the holes and the reverse is the case where the charge on the surface is negative. An inter layer is provided which permits the charge to flow away from the illuminated zones of the photoconductor but prevents this occurring in the absence of light. The inter semiconductor layer may consist of arsenic selenide or arsenic sulphide or mixtures of these, or polyvinyl carbazole, where the surface charge is positive and trinitrofluorenone where the surface charge is negative.
