Abstract
An embossing calender for thermoplastics or composite sheet comprises a heating drum and an embossing roll and counter-roll applied to it; the distance between the heating drum and the other pair of rolls is variable. To enable laminating, coating and stretching or drawing to be carried out in a single unit, a gp. of two or three additional rolls, is incorporated between the heating drum and the counter and embossing rolls; these intermeate rolls are driven at equal or differing circumferential speeds equal to or higher than the circumferential speed of the heating drum; one of them is laterally adjustable relative to the others of the gp. Where there are two rolls in the gp., both are mounted in a laterally and vertically movable plate, while one only can be moved in a slot transversely in this plate. Where there are three rolls in the gp., the third additional one is mounted in the same plate to constitute a triangular pattern of rolls in the group having its apex remote from the heating drum, the roll at this apex being laterally adjustable in the plate relative to the others. A range of different operations can be carried out, and either thick or thin sheets treated.
