Abstract

The washer may be pushed onto a projection and forms a captive cover. The invention concerns the production of such a washer from a single piece of sheet steel, shaped initially like a star with blunted rays. The centre of the washer is pressed into the form of a cap (5) and flange (6) and the rays are folded inwards at (6a), to form spring tongues (3). A gap (10) is left in the centre to accept the end of the support to be covered or protected. Pushing the washer onto the projection displaces the tongues which then grip the projection and prevent the washer from being removed easily.
