Abstract

Prodn. of glass from its constituent material present in a melting crucible, by bringing about at least the heating required for purifying and homogenising the glass by use of high frequency energy. By suitable choice of matls for the crucible and furnace, pick up of impurities from refractories or from heating gases is eliminated, and very high quality glass suitable for optical fibres or for laser construction can be produced.
