Abstract
Detection of turbulence and hence bubbles formed in the liq. sodium used for cooling and heat transfer in atomic reactors, in achieved by transmitting acoustic impulses through the liq. the time of transit through the sodium indicating the presence of such bubbles. Transducer is made up of a branched magneto-strictive arrangement in the form of rods of cobalt- iron having a high curie temp. And magneto-strictive level. This material is also largely insensitive to alpha and other radiation. Each magneto-strictive element carries a bobbin detecting and initiating changes in dimension of the element. Circuitry is provided to read out the information gained and to periodically reset the emitter via a capacitive arrangement.
