Abstract
A helical insert (3) to be introduced inside heat exchanger tubes to cause turbulence of the heating medium as it passes through the tube, is made from metal strip in which incisions are made along one edge, then another set is made along one opposite edge staggered from the first. Their depth is between a third and a sixth of the width of the strip. The strip is then twisted to form the helix, and a set of flanges (A, B) is formed, bent along the connecting lines (8) between the bottoms of the incisions, these flanges being five sided, three sides being the rectangular edges of the incisions and the strip itself (5, 6, 7), the other two being the bend lines (8).
